A hotel for cats in Jerusalem will be ready for opening this week, in a move that was welcomed by residents of the Palestinian-occupied West Bank city, where more than 10,000 people have died in the past decade.
The hotel, called Dog &Cat, is located in the village of Kafr Nabi in the northern part of the city.
The hotel’s owners say they will open it to cat and dog owners this week and the owners of the nearby Arab neighborhood of Khirbet Abu al-Jafr have already taken it over.
But residents of Kafar Nabi, who live in the settlement of Al-Fawwaran and the Arab village of Kufr al-Khuwayy in the same city, have criticized the hotel’s design, saying it violates their rights to a clean environment.
Kafar Nabis neighbors also complained about the building, which has an open plan and a “quiet area” in the middle, and residents also complained that they had no idea what the purpose of the hotel was.
The Palestinian Authority, which governs the West Bank, said that it is ready to offer compensation for the residents of Khurbat Abu al -Jafar, the owners said in a statement.
A local activist who asked not to be identified told The Jerusalem Times that he had spoken to the owners about the hotel and that they were open to offering the residents compensation.
The project, which will be built on land belonging to the Palestinian Authority and owned by the hotel, will be a project that will bring in jobs for locals in the area, according to the project’s site.
The developer is seeking government grants for the construction of the new hotel.
The project has been in the works since 2009, and the site is still under construction, the project said.
Kufr Abu al Jafr is located near the southernmost village of the West al-Aqsa compound, where Palestinians pray in front of the Dome of the Rock, which they consider the site of the Temple Mount.
It is the most populous Palestinian village in the West, according a 2009 report by the Palestinian Center for Human Rights.
According to the Jerusalem Post, the building will have several rooms and will have “sitting room” sections for dogs and cats, which the hotel owners say will be good for them because the cats will be kept separate.
The owners also plan to build a separate room for their dogs, which are to be housed in a separate enclosure and not in the hotel.
The West Bank’s government, which is dominated by the PA, has repeatedly criticized building projects that do not comply with Israeli rules.
In 2015, the Palestinian city of Ramallah, in the southern West Bank under Israeli control, approved a proposal for a $1.3 billion building project in Ramallah that would have housed more than 1,000 residents.
The plan was rejected by the Israeli authorities and the Palestinian leadership, who complained that it was a violation of international law.
The Palestinians’ decision was criticized by the United Nations, which called the construction a violation to the 1967 Fourth Geneva Convention, which requires that occupied areas be used for civilian purposes.
The Palestinians also said that the project would have damaged the site’s archaeological sites, which have long been used as a symbol of the holy site, the Al-Aksa Mosque, and to mark Palestinian and Israeli holy sites.
