Fort lauderdal hotel in Sydney’s east is being evacuated after it was struck by lightning.
The hotel has been evacuated amid concern about the hotel’s electrical system.
“It has been declared a total loss and the power is out in the rooms,” the hotel manager, Mark, told ABC News.
The Fort laudordale hotel in Melbourne’s east, where the lightning strike occurred, has been sealed off and is not allowed to reopen until next week.
“The lightning struck at around 2:30pm local time,” Mr Mark said.
“There is currently no power and no water.”
Mr Mark said the damage to the hotel had been assessed at $US2.3 million ($3.2 million) but there was no immediate estimate of what might happen to the other hotels.
“I know it’s a shock but we are trying to get everything back on track,” he said.
