A massive fire at New Orleans’ famous hotel has left one man dead and a second man in critical condition, according to local media.
The fire broke out in a room in the iconic Marigny Hotel at around 6:30 a.m. local time on Saturday.
It is unclear whether the cause of the blaze is suspicious, but authorities say they are still investigating the cause.
Firefighters were able to contain the blaze to the third floor, according, but the fire was still raging as of Saturday evening, New Orleans Fire Department spokesperson Marjorie Smith said.
Fire officials are investigating the causes of the fire.
The New Orleans Police Department said in a statement that a man had been in the room with a third person when the fire broke loose.
He was taken to a hospital, where he later died, the statement said.
A spokesman for the city of New Orleans said on Twitter that the city was on the scene of a “major fire” in the Marigniys New Orleans hotel complex.
